As a result of the need to ensure a stable supply of electricity, increase power trading with the Continent and the desire to facilitate the construction of new green power in order to achieve Norway's climate goals, it is necessary to increase the transmission capacity in the main grid.

As part of this development, Statnett has applied for a licence to modify and upgrade (demolition/new construction/rebuild) the current 300 kV power lines to 420 kV on the section between Feda and Tonstad. The licence application comprises new 420 kV substation facilities in Feda and Tonstad.
