Interview tips

What you need to know before, during and after a job interview at Statnett.

Before the interview

  • Clothing

Statnett is a relatively informal organisation, clothing-wise. That said, it is always advisable to dress a little more formally than usual. Consider who you are going to meet in the interview, and please ask if you have any questions.

  • Preparation

Your chances of making a positive impression and having a successful interview increase if you are well prepared. Consider what we would like to know about you as an applicant, and what you would like to know about Statnett as an employer. You will usually have time during the interview to ask questions – use that time well.

We encourage you to find information about us on our website before the interview. If you know someone who works, or has worked, for us, they will also be able to give you a lot of relevant information.

  • Required materials

We will take a copy of your passport for identification purposes at the second interview. Candidates must bring their original passport to these interviews. Copies are deleted when they are no longer needed.

During the interview

  • Duration

You can expect the first interview to last between 35 and 60 minutes. The second interview often lasts a little longer, between 60 and 120 minutes, due to the use of tests, case studies etc.

  • What you should focus on

The recruiter’s best advice is to be yourself. You should focus on your contributions to the company and let your motivation shine through.

  • Tests

We use both behavioural and aptitude tests in our recruitment processes. The tests are usually sent to candidates ahead of the second interview. Results are reviewed as part of the actual interview.
If you have not previously completed these types of tests, it might be wise to become familiar with them before you answer the questions. All tests have some “practice exercises” you can try before you officially start.

  • Case studies

Sometimes we use case studies to allow us to observe your work performance and methods. The cases we use are always connected to the relevant position, and you will always be able to ask why we use any given case. Cases can be sent as an exercise to be completed between the two interviews, but they can also be assigned during the interview. We normally inform you about this beforehand, and you will usually be given a few minutes’ preparation before you start work.

  • Salaries and benefits – when will we talk about it?

Statnett does not pay market-leading salaries but can offer competitive benefits and bonus schemes. Salaries are a natural topic in an interview situation because both parties are interested to know whether their expectations can be met. For this reason, you should expect to be asked about your salary expectations and your current salary level.

After the interview

  • Background checks

We run background checks on all our staff. This check is based on the documentation the staff deliver with the application. Different positions require different types of background checks.

  • References

It is not easy to find good references. We recommend finding references that are most relevant for the job you are applying for, preferably from someone you have reported to.
We use a standard questionnaire to obtain references. These naturally aim to identify more than just your strengths. Therefore, choose references that can paint a complete and nuanced picture of you as a candidate. You leave a complex image of yourself in the interviews, and the references should be able to do the same.

  • Reimbursement of costs

We can refund all reasonable transport costs in connection with interviews. We cover costs of the cheapest means of transport. If you have any questions concerning reimbursement of transport costs, you can ask the manager or HR advisor about this when you are called in for an interview.
