- With the rapid transformation of the energy system that is taking place now, it is crucial that we develop and adopt new technologies that can contribute to future-oriented solutions for the energy system in Norway, the Nordics and Europe, says Rannveig Løken, acting director of Innovation and Technology development in Statnett.

In the next few years, Statnett will put a lot of resources into meeting the needs to automate key processes in the operation of the power system and make the information management process more efficient. In order to make the best possible use of the power system in the future, it is required that we can observe and monitor the condition of our assets to an even greater extent than we can today - and this requires collection of precise data over large geographical areas. In addition, Statnett must develop automated market solutions for various system services that we use to balance the power grid.

- The capacity of the power grid must be increased through both upgrading the existing grid and in the form of building new assets. Using data and new technologies, we can operate the transmission network closer to its limits and make better use of its capacity, explains Løken.

She adds that topics such as capacity increase, data management, cyber-security, automatic solutions, flexibility and sustainability are examples of areas where Statnett wants new project proposals.

Statnett is interested in project proposals that promote collaboration

Statnett prefers that the research proposals that are submitted promote collaboration between stakeholders across academia, research institutions and industry, so that we together can develop expertise and good solutions for the industry. It is an advantage if the research proposal is eligible for financial support.

Submit proposals via Statnett's website

Proposals for R&D projects are submitted via our R&D portal on Statnett's websiteby filling in a form with further information about your idea.

The deadline for submitting proposals is 1. November 2022.
