Upgrade from today’s 300 kV to 420 kV.

Construction of the substation in Kvinesdal

Statnett is currently working to construct the next-generation national power grid. An important step towards this goal is to increase the capacity of the power line grid and the power stations by upgrading from today’s 300 kilovolts to 420 kilovolts.

This voltage upgrade will increase capacity in the power line grid and, in turn, help improve security of supply and secure interconnectors to Europe. It will also facilitate production of additional renewable energy, which will help Norway and Europe achieve their climate targets.

What’s happening at the Kvinesdal substation?

Construction of a new 420 kilovolt substation, which will partly replace the Feda substation and re-routing of power lines to the Kvinesdal substation.
What’s happening at the Feda substation?

A 580 kilometre long subsea HVDC power cable runs from the substation to Eemshaven in the Netherlands (NorNed connection). The cable is the longest subsea cable in the world and was commissioned in 2008. The cable is jointly owned by Statnett and Dutch TenneT.
