Hamang substation is an important step in the renewal of the main grid in the region. The substation was built in 1951 and some parts of the facility are nearing the end of their technical lifespan. The substation’s age and expected increase in consumption necessitate increased capacity in the main grid to ensure a reliable supply of electricity in the years to come. The substation must therefore be replaced.

Construction cannot start until the Norwegian Public Roads Administration has completed the Hamang section of the E16 highway. The remodelling of Hamang substation is scheduled to be completed in 2023. To ensure a reliable supply until 2023, temporary measures will be implemented at Hamang substation. The following year, the existing substation will be removed and Hafslund Nett will demolish the power line to Berger. The temporary towers that were established at Hamang in connection with the E16 development, will also be demolished.
