The programme Innovative Technology aims to resolve the challenges associated with the expansion of the power generation and transmission system in the period 2020–2050. The programme develops new methods for building electrical substations, laying cables or erecting overhead power lines more quickly, safely and at a lower cost.
Over the next few years, Statnett plans to invest billions of NOK to upgrade and expand Norway’s power transmission grid. It therefore has a particular responsibility to ensure that this is achieved as quickly, safely and cost-effectively as possible.
The R&D potential of the Innovative Technology programme is therefore substantial. The programme is designed to address basic challenges and question “old” truths relating to grid development and construction, while simultaneously enhancing existing construction methods within given parameters.
The Innovative Technology programme contains the following projects:
- Digital substation
- AWM installation robot
- Robotic line installation
- Composite and aluminium pylons
- Mass Impregnated Non-Draining (MIND) cables
