Statnett is preparing the power system to handle more renewable power production, increased consumption and greater and more frequent changes to both production and consumption. This increases the need to be able to react quickly and maintain good control over the status both of facilities and of the system as a whole.
Therefore, within this programme research topics include
- data-driven and automated decision support for future system operations
- real-time facility management
- smart monitoring, management and control using new methods and systems (PMUs, sensors, drones)
- cyber security
- human–machine interfaces
- new balancing concepts
- new digital collaboration tools
The objective is for real-time data-driven decision support, automation and self-learning to provide more efficient system operation thanks to better risk management, thereby strengthening the system’s ability to handle increased load and production.
