The company states that it still aims to complete the construction of the line in time for it to be operational by Christmas 2012.
Statnett emphasises that the company concurs with the main conclusions of the four independent committees who submitted their reports on the issue on 1 February. “The committees’ conclusions are very close to our description of the cable alternative. Furthermore, they showed that there is a need for significant investments to secure the electricity supply in this region,” Lont says.

However, Statnett points out that the company will handle such projects differently in the future. “We have learnt a lot from this process, and have already initiated measures to establish an earlier and closer dialogue with local and regional interests in similar cases,” says Statnett’s President and CEO.
