The challenge

New consumption patterns and energy sources will require major changes in the future. In order to ensure seamless and efficient control, the power system must be able to withstand new operating patterns with more frequent start-ups, failures and changeovers.

Currently, there is a lack of reliable test standards for stresses with voltage pulses from power electronics.

The goal

Today’s tests, which use 50 Hz voltages, do not reflect the real challenges that the system will face going forward. The project will therefore gather knowledge and develop equipment, models and techniques to make it possible to carry out more extensive stress tests of high-voltage components.

The project

FastTrans includes various insulation systems: from internal insulation in power electronics modules, to insulation in high-voltage cables, rotating machines and transformers. The test methods will provide improved detection of partial discharges, better pulse propagation in networks, and more accurate insulation aging diagnostics.
