Statnett enters into contract on seabed surveys in the Hardangerfjord
(10/22/2010)
Statnett has entered into a contract with Bergen-based company DOF Subsea Norway AS for surveys of the seabed in Hardanger. Statnett wants to be well prepared whatever the final solution will be for the planned transmission connection between Simadal in Eidfjord and Samnanger.
The seabed surveys are scheduled to start in late October and the results will be made public.
Statnett is also preparing for the seabed cable alternative by conducting electrical systems analyses, engineering land facilities and conducting cable-technical calculations. This work will form the basis for the procurement process in the event that a seabed cable becomes the preferred alternative. The surveys are taking place in parallel with the work on the overhead line alternative.
”Regardless of whether a seabed cable or an overhead line is chosen in Hardanger, Statnett will be responsible for the construction. To ensure power supply to Bergen and large parts of Hordaland County, Statnett is therefore preparing both alternatives with a view towards reducing any delays as much as possible,” says Statnett executive vice president Håkon Borgen.
