Positive to a review
(8/18/2010)
Statnett takes a positive view of an independent review being conducted of the subsea cable alternative, considering the way this case has developed.
We believe this will contribute to legitimate the final decision to a higher degree. Statnett is a world leader when it comes to sea cables, and we look forward to offering our assistance to ensure that such further reviews do not delay the project.
"It is Statnett's job to make sure that supplies are reliable. The situation in Bergen is unacceptable, and we are therefore pleased with the Government's decision to follow the approved schedule for start-up of the construction work. It would be irresponsible not to begin the building work now," says CEO of Statnett, Auke Lont.
Statnett will enter into discussions with the relevant municipalities in Hardanger without delay, to see whether further improvement to the chosen overhead lines alternative is possible. We believe that input from the local communities may give us an even better solution.
This project work started in 2005. Throughout the entire process, Statnett has complied with the mandate given to us by the Norwegian parliament, and applicable cabling policy. This was confirmed in July when we were granted a licence for the overhead line alternative that we had applied for.
