New price strategy for the main grid

In the autumn of 2009, Statnett started a process to study the "next generation main grid tariff", based on stepped up investments, increasing costs for the main grid and associated challenges.

The plan calls for the new price strategy to take effect from 2013, but the desire for a long, thorough process vis-à-vis the players has led Statnett to get an early start on this work.

On Friday, 5 March, Åsmud Jenssen of Econ Pöyry presented a report entitled "New price strategy for the main grid", commissioned by Statnett. In December 2009, Econ Pöyry was assigned the task of preparing an independent proposal for a main grid price strategy. This report was presented in its entirety for an audience of about 30 people representing the various interests among Statnett's customer base. Invitations were sent to the Norsk Industri, Energi Norge and DEFO organisations and their members, as well as the NVE (Norwegian Water Resources and Energy Directorate). There was a good debate including different viewpoints, and Jenssen also responded to various challenges.

The process will continue, taking the basis from this report into consideration in further deliberations and discussions with the organisations. We expect to arrive at a proposed new price strategy by summer. This will be followed by discussion processes with the various players up until a final decision is made on a new price strategy for 2013 to 2017 by Statnett's board in December 2010.
