The Statnett Brussel office officially opened

At Thursday 18th of November Statnett officially opened its Brussel office which will be the company’s voice into EU and contribute to a dialogue between Norwegian and EU interests in power grid and market issues.

The office was officially opened by Statnett CEO Auke Lont and the Norwegian Ambassador Oda Sletnes, together with 150 specially invited guests.

“We need a revolution to meet the joint global challenges of energy needs and climate change (…). It requires a massive European effort to create new electricity highways, and a new power network in Europe. A low-carbon society will need more electricity - electricity produced from renewable sources, Auke Lont stated in his opening speech”. Lont further emphasised that Norwegian power production is based on hydropower and from reservoirs in mountainous regions, making power production both clean and flexible.

The Ambassador focused on the infrastructure – electricity highways - between Norway and neighbouring countries as a crucial way, also for the European Union, to reach climate goals.  “Statnett as a large European power grid company plays a major role in this important task. The subsea cables connecting the Norwegian grid to neighbouring countries is important, also because it can realise renewable wind power energy potential in these countries", the ambassador said.

The Statnett office is located at the Norway House in Brussels, together with other members of the Norwegian energy sector like Statkraft og Energy Norway.
