Dalekovod to supply new 420 kV cable for the Sauda-Liastølen project

On 4 March, Statnett signed a contract with the Croatian construction company Dalekovod for the supply of materials to the Sauda-Liastølen project. The contract is based on general contracting services comprising supply of equipment as well as labour.

The purpose of the Sauda-Liastølen project is to increase capacity across the Sauda section, facilitate a voltage upgrade from 300 to 420 kV in western Norway and prepare for increased energy exchange with other countries. The transmission cable will stretch 29 kilometres and be connected to Statnett’s transformer station
in Sauda in the north of the region, transverse the mountains, the Hyls fjord and Lake Suldalsvannet – and be connected to the existing Liastøl-Saurdal cable in the south.

Construction is scheduled to commence at the end of April/beginning of May and will be concluded by the summer of 2011.
The cost of the project is estimated at approximately NOK 200 million.

”There has been a lot of interest and stiff competition among the qualified European companies. Dalekovod won the tender after a total assessment of both financial and  non-financial criteria, such as the assessment of the companies’ plans and programmes regarding health, safety and the environment,”  says Project Manager Ulf Kolstad of Statnett’s Grid Development Division.
