Construction of overhead line will start between Samnanger and Mødal in Kvamskogen
(10/12/2010)
Construction work on the new interconnector between Sima in Eidfjord and Samnanger will start on Monday, 18 October. The work will start on the section between Børdal in Samnanger and Mødal in Kvamskogen. The overhead line for this section will be identical for both the overhead and sea cable alternative.
Construction will start on a 1-kilometre long section. Whilst waiting for a final decision to be made concerning Sima-Samnanger, work will only be conducted on this section. The activities include forest clearance and preparing foundations.
”NVE has now approved Statnett’s environment and transport plan. We look forward to embark on the important task of providing the Bergen area with a reliable supply of electricity. We have established a good dialogue with both Samnanger and Kvam and we believe working conditions will be good during the construction period,” says Statnett project manager, Steinar Bygdås.
With an approved environment and transport plan Statnett has all the necessary permits to start construction. Dialoge and interaction with the affected municipalities and property owners has been important during the preparation of the plan. The plan describes how the focus on the environmental aspect will be ensured during the construction phase, including restrictions for transport and requirements for clearing up after the construction work has terminated. The environment and transport plan is an attachment to the project’s HSE plan.
The Croatian company Dalekovod is the line contractor and around 40 people in total will be involved in the construction work this autumn. Dalekovod has also previously constructed lines for Statnett, including the 25-kilometre long overhead line from Tydal to the Swedish border. Statnett sets stringent health, safety and environment requirements, and Dalekovod is highly familiar with these requirements.
”We are very pleased with the work Dalekovod has done for us in the past and look forward to working with them again. We will keep in daily contact with the contractor and will check the work that has been completed on a regular basis. Our objective is to ensure that our activities do not result in any injuries and that that the activities are conducted with respect for the external environment,” Bygdås says.
