NorNed – auction of capacity expected to start Monday May 5

Testing of the NorNed cable connection between Norway and the Netherlands has made good progress. The first auction of capacity rights for electricity flow the coming day is planned for Monday May 5th 2008.

The testing of NorNed has progressed well, and trial results over the last weeks have contributed to a positive assessment on the reliability of the connection. Conditional to positive outcome of the remaining tests, the first electricity transmission settled by results of the NorNed auction will take place Tuesday May 6, 2008.

The testing period will be followed by a two months’ trial phase. During this period the NorNed HVDC link will be closely monitored and evaluated. These assessments might expose requirements for additional testing and fine-tuning. If needed, TenneT and Statnett will announce such tests well in advance.
