Statnett co-ordinates supply and demand, and owns large sections of the main Norwegian power grid.

Environment and CSR

CO2 and the climate

In contrast to the rest of Europe, Norwegian power generation gives off virtually no CO2 emissions.  Nevertheless, the climate goals pose important challenges for the Norwegian power sector:

  • New CO2-free power is needed in order to replace fossil fuel.
  • New CO2-free power generation is less flexible. Therefore, increased trade in the power-market is necessary to fulfil the climate policy. Norwegian hydroelectric power could play an important role as a ‘swing producer’.

Biodiversity

Nesting birds and the movements of domesticated  reindeer are topics that have interested Statnett for some time and have been the subject of many research projects.

Health and security

Safety is first priority for Statnett; to secure our own personell and other people coming into contact with our facilities.

Ethics

Statnett’s role in the Norwegian power system demands a high level of credibility and integrity, and the work relating to ethics is one of the cornerstones which must be in place in order to perform this role.

Cultural cooperation

Statnett is involved in a variety of cultural activities. Support for national and regional cultural activities represents an important contribution in the work to further enhance Statnett’s reputation as a socially responsible player.

Statnetts miljøstrategi

Statnett opererer i spenningsfeltet mellom viktige interesser knyttet til lokalt miljø- og landskapsvern, globale klimahensyn, forsyningssikkerhet og økonomi.
