Statnett co-ordinates supply and demand, and owns large sections of the main Norwegian power grid.

Deregulation

Norway deregulated its electricity market in 1991 as one of the first countries in the world. The Norwegian electricity market has since then developed into one common Nordic market and is today probably the best functioning electricity market in the world.

Statnett SF is the Transmission System Operator (TSO) in Norway. The responsibility is to own and operate the main grid, to balance the power system and to develop the Nordic market design. Statnett has substantial experience in developing market tools, tariff structure and market rules to secure and further develop a well functioning electricity market.
